Hyman/Karp Family Philanthropic Fund: Aubrey and Shirley Hyman

It is our strong belief that Jews have a three-fold responsibility; supporting the infrastructure of our local communities, maintaining Israel’s strength, and helping individual Jews in need. It is this last goal that Aubrey especially identifies with his father, Samuel Hyman, who instilled in his children the importance of being “your brothers’ keeper”. Consequently, the Hyman family business, where possible, provides gainful employment to those in need, especially new immigrants.

We also have an obligation to perform tzedakah – acts of justice – by helping those less fortunate and by supporting Jewish institutions.

The most precious gift we can give our children is to ensure a welcoming and prospering Israel, and a creative and proud Diaspora, sharing good fortune with all their neighbours in a peaceful world.

We hope that this endowment will perpetuate the teachings of our parents, and that our children – Tali, Mia and Sam – will enhance the values of freedom, community and tzedakah, not only for themselves but for generations to come.
