Hyman/Karp Family Philanthropic Fund: Jack & Brenda Karp
“You are your brother’s keeper” is the principle that guides us in our communal involvement and philanthropic activities. Jack’s parents, born in Poland, and Brenda’s, born in Canada, instilled in all their children an appreciation of freedom, and the belief that by building a strong Jewish community – locally and abroad – this precious gift will be sustained.
In both Calgary and Vancouver, we have appreciated what our communities have given us and believe that it is our responsibility to give something back. Over the years we have been involved in both fund raising and leadership roles, supporting such organizations as the Calgary Hebrew School, the Maccabia Games, the JCCGV, National Council of Jewish Women and the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver. Of particular pride is Jack’s commitment to the Hebrew Free Loan Association and Brenda’s establishment of the first Jewish daycare in Calgary and her role in the establishment of the JCCGV Sports Dinner.
The establishment of the Hyman/Karp Family Fund reflects our intergenerational values of responsibility and commitment.
