Types of Funds
We help you choose the right kinds of funds to meet your philanthropic goals.
Unrestricted Funds
The most flexibility to respond to community needs.
Needs in the community change, and we must be able to respond as new challenges emerge and ongoing needs evolve. The Foundation’s unrestricted granting process provides timely support to a wide range of pressing, emerging and ongoing community interests and needs.
Organizations may apply to the Unrestricted Grant Program for funds to meet emerging community challenges, to pilot new programs, or to respond to urgent needs. Our grant committee, a standing committee of the Governors, represents our diverse community. The committee carefully reviews organizations’ applications and allocates funds to support innovative, start-up, and capital projects throughout the community.
Donor-Advised Funds
The most flexibility for you to direct the impact of your philanthropy.
Each year, fund holders make recommendations for how their fund’s distributable income should be directed to charitable organizations, Jewish and non-Jewish alike. You are fully in charge of which organizations you support, and we can help match your interests to organizations addressing those issues and needs in the community whether locally, nationally, or globally.
Many bar and bat mitzvah funds are donor-advised funds. Read more about marking this milestone philanthropically.
Designated Funds
Provide ongoing support to the organizations that are most important to you.
When you establish your fund, you will choose which organization(s) you will support in perpetuity. We offer three kinds of designated funds:
- Designated Funds – Support a specific organization or organizations.
- Perpetual Annual Campaign Endowment Funds (PACE) – Ensure that your gift to the Federation Annual Campaign continues in perpetuity, as established through a bequest. This type of fund includes the Lion of Judah Endowments (LOJE).
- Field of Interest Funds – Support a specific area or effort that is important to you, such as Jewish education, poverty relief, services for seniors, or Israel experience programs.
