Abe and Lydia Jampolsky Family Endowment Fund
Our parents moved to Vancouver from Montreal in 1956, and immediately became involved in what was then a small Jewish community. In the following years, they both held positions in many of our community’s organizations, serving on Boards and as Presidents of Talmud Torah, JNF, Israel Bonds, Beth Israel Synagogue, Hadassah, and the JCC. In later years, they were both instrumental in the creation of the Shaarey Tefillah Synagogue.
Abe was born in Lipton, Saskatchewan in 1921, and Lydia in New York in 1924. Both served in their respective countries’ militaries – Abe in the RCAF, and Lydia in the US Army. They had both moved to Montreal, where they met in 1951. They were married in New York in 1952. When they moved to Vancouver, they opened Finns of Kerrisdale, which Abe ran until his retirement at 85 years of age in 2007.
In 1987, Abe was honoured by the Jewish National Fund of Canada as the Negev Dinner Honouree.
The Abe and Lydia Jampolsky Endowment Fund was established to honour their memories, and to continue their efforts and work for the benefit of our community into the future.
